2nd year BDS Life

Main difference from first year is here you have more preclinical excercises than theory part. As like 1st year ,here also you have 3 subjects 1)Dental Materials(Prosthodontics+Conservative) 2)Microbiology & Pathology 3)Pharmacology We can go through each one : 1)Dental materials(Prosthodontics + Conservative) In this subject you will learn about different materials used in dentistry.It may be impression materials,waxes,gypsum products, restorative materials... It divided into Prosthodontic and Conservative topics. We will learn them later. Exam pattern in KUHS include 1 theory paper including 35 mark each for both Prosthodontics and Conservative topics and 2 separate practicals for same. 2) Microbiology & Pathology Microbiology deals with different microbes involved in disease progression and their culture. BDS 1st year - Inroduction to Dentistry

First year consist of 3 subjects Dental Anatomy Human Anatomy Biochemistry and Physiology 1)Dental Anatomy (DA): This is the introductory subject to dentistry where you study the morphological and  physiological aspects of tooth development,structure of tooth and surrounding structures,reffered as periodontium(Perio means around,odent means tooth). In DA lab,u will learn wax carving .It will help you to understand tooth morphology by gothrough each part of the tooth. Instrument used for carving is lecron carver. What is BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) Do you know the basics?

It is the course that help you to be a dentist,who concerns with healthy  maintainance of head and face ; particularly Oral Cavity/mouth. Full form of BDS :  Bachelor of Dental Surgery. Duration   It may vary according to different universities. According to Kerala University of health and science (KUHS) ,this course consist of 4 and half year study + 1 year internship. Course structure :   This course divided into 4 and half years. You will have total 5 set of exams during this course. Exam conduct annually on first 3 years. Final year,which have a duration of 1 year and 6 months divided into two Part A/Part 1 : Consist of one year after which you have exams & Part B/Part 2 : Consist of 6 months after which exams will conducted.   We can divide the course broadly into two a)Preclinical b)Clinical Preclinical period : First 2 years of BDS reffered as preclinical. Why because,this is the period before you entering clinic. You will learn wax carving,Plaster working,Conservative preparations,Orthodontic wire bending along with usual medical subject practicals like Anatomy - histology & dissection ,Biochemistry,Physiology(during 1st year) , Microbiology,Pharmacology,Patholog(During 2nd year). Clinical Period : Clinical posting in dental college under KUHS starting in 3rd year.
