BDS 1st year - Inroduction to Dentistry



First year consist of 3 subjects

  1. Dental Anatomy
  2. Human Anatomy
  3. Biochemistry and Physiology

1)Dental Anatomy (DA):

This is the introductory subject to dentistry where you study the morphological and  physiological aspects of tooth development,structure of tooth and surrounding structures,reffered as periodontium(Perio means around,odent means tooth).
  • In DA lab,u will learn wax carving .It will help you to understand tooth morphology by gothrough each part of the tooth.
  • Instrument used for carving is lecron carver.
DA theory exam under KUHS : 70 marks

2)Human Anatomy

Here you will learn about human body .We mainly focus on head & neck region.Dissection lab is an experience.If you experience share with us.
  • In Human Anatomy,there are 2 labs.Histology and dissection.

3) Physiology and Biochemistry

In BDS these 2 subjects combined in first year.Don't worry.U will have separate lab sessions 😅
  • In Physiology lab you will start with blood tests : Don't need to think much.You are going to prick on your own soft finger tip,(all the best 😜)
  • In Biochemistry different urine analysis will done on first weeks.
In KUHS,Physiology and Biochemistry exam with 35 mark each ,thus total on 70

Other Dental Labworks in 1st year

You may have 
  • Preclinical Prosthodontics lab
  • Preclinical Orthodontics lab
  • Preclinical Conservative lab
